Allotment friends and neighbours

Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by Brian the Warden, who immediately took us under his wing to share his deep knowledge of the land. He imparted invaluable advice and practical guidance on which crops would thrive best for beginners, offering tailored tips on what to plant to maximize our first harvest. But of all his wisdom, one crucial warning stood out above the rest, delivered with absolute urgency: "Space out your crops!" It was a lesson we took to heart, realizing that giving our plants room to breathe was the ultimate secret to avoiding a crowded, tangled disaster and ensuring a bountiful season ahead.

Reddings Road allotment is very lucky to have Brian as the warden. Brian is the heart and soul of the community plot.  With a wealth of knowledge he’s always eager to share, Brian takes meticulous care of the grounds while making sure every newcomer and regular is greeted with a warm, helpful welcome. Whether he’s offering invaluable gardening wisdom, keeping the plots in pristine shape, or rallying everyone together, his leadership transforms a simple patch of land into a thriving, connected family.

Brian also brings plenty of character to the plot—even fully embracing our pink! However, he does have one strict rule: the only colours he absolutely objects to are green and yellow together, as those belong to his rival football club.  He takes meticulous care of his plot, and is the kind of gardener we all aspire to be! It takes a serious amount of patience, sore muscles, and genuine passion to maintain that level of care to his plot and we are very envious of his grapes!  He is our inspiration.

From the moment we arrived, we were wholeheartedly welcomed into a community where everyone on the allotment is incredibly friendly and always willing to share their homegrown produce. The spirit of generosity runs deep on Reddings Road; we were immediately showered with invaluable advice and guidance from all corners of the plot. Whether it was seasoned growers sharing their secret composting formulas or neighbors offering tips on the best crops to plant, the collective wisdom and open arms of the community made us feel welcome.
